The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) is the primary federal agency responsible for enforcing laws and treaties that address wildlife trafficking. We work in close coordination with federal agencies, foreign governments, non-government organizations, and partners around the globe to tackle illegal wildlife trade. We provide financial assistance and technical expertise to projects that secure habitats and wildlife populations, prevent poaching, improve law enforcement, and reduce demand for illegal wildlife products. We strengthen international agreements and build public-private partnerships to raise awareness and empower consumers’ to play a role in stopping this illicit trade. We investigate and arrest wildlife traffickers and provide assistance to law enforcement in key regions through the placement of special agent attachés.  We operate the world’s first and only full-service wildlife forensics laboratory. We’re committed to ending the scourge of poaching and wildlife trafficking that threatens to wipe out some of the world’s most treasured species.
